Summer Updates

Hello my art friends,

What a wonderful summer this year brings us! Warm sunny days, blue skies, fantastic sunsets and star sightings! Of course a true summer should be mixed in with showers, cool breeze, the odd humidity and grey days, but overall, I cannot complain!!

Hope you have been enjoying yourself and taking a few days to relax.

Next weekend, Aug. 27-29 I will be at the Rideau Valley Arts Festival, in Westport, Ontario. This would be my 2nd year with the festival and trust me it is a wonderful show. Lots of great artists from Ontario and a load of beautiful original art. Please come and visit my booth #60, where I will showcase new work on my 'Conservation Series'.

An added tidbit, would be that Currys Art Store is now on their BACK TO SCHOOL SALE! Sale continues until October 15.

Hugs to all and hope to see you soon!

Let’s Jam by Marissa Sweet (2006)

Let’s Jam by Marissa Sweet (2006)

Please click on the link to see the 2nd issue of Durham's Art of Transition magazine. The painting on the cover is called "Let's Jam" which was a painting I did last 2006 for my sister-in-law's music studio. This magazine focuses on integrating art that local artists craft to the innovative businesses that plant their roots in Durham. I am thrilled with being on the cover and excited about this opportunity! http://www.artoftransition.ca/

The Influence of Colour

I am very excited to invite you to my solo show at the Gallery on Main, Westport, Ontario next month. The show starts on June 1st, with a Meet and Greet, on June 19th at 11a.m. My paintings are inspired by our connection with our environment, the synergy and the importance of balance. My paintings lead viewers to remember that nature was here before us and that we have to go back to the basics of respecting their need to 'just be'. Instead of trying the manage nature, we have to rethink of managing ourselves. Show continues until June 27th. This show is dedicated to my father, Reynaldo de Asis with part of the proceeds to the World Wildlife Fund.

Sunday

Even when not painting, I am still continually working... working on my craft... whether it be researching or working on my course outline for new classes I am facilitating this year, submitting applications for art shows and juried competitions, updating my website, admin and filing, getting my taxes in order, teaching art, drawing odd sketches of freaky ideas or reading yet another art magazine, I am always working towards getting things going, moving on to the next painting project. All good... all good.

Family

I enjoyed seeing my cousin Terry today... sometimes you just need someone who would listen and just "be" with you. Wished sometimes we lived closer, but again, I guess this distance makes our visits more special. She is not only a cousin, but pseudo sister and someone I would consider a best friend, all rolled into one.

Winter Olympics - Vancouver 2010

It is fun and exciting to watch all the winter sports... I get energized and motivated by all the energy in competition, Canada working hard to being # 1 in the world. What determination and dedication these athletes have and working endlessly to be the best that they can be!!! So far, I have counted 3 Gold, 3 Silver, 1 Bronze for Canada and it is only week 1! All these, inspire me to be a better artist, to work on ideas that have been swirling in my head for years, months, days...

Started 3 new paintings this week, and the goal is to get my ideas down on canvas. Gotta chase that gold!
